I think it's just a result of poor quality components really. You have to remember the n95 is a jack of all trades and a master of none, well apart from the phone bit, it gets that right most of the time.

Simon

This is what is commonly referred to as the 'hiss' in other Nokia/Symbian forums discussing the N95 (not to be confused with the 'buzz' of the LCD sceen).
I suspect it's a hardware issue, although has anyone downloaded a 3rd party media player to see if it makes any difference to the hiss?

Bose Triport IE user here.
I used to hate buds, still do..
but the Bose IE's are bearable, and thats probably because they dont sound like a tin can - at least they have bass and provide a warm typical Bose sound - not a harsh over trebley sound.
The Bose IE's are innefficent and will zap the battery life on the N95. I suggest a headphone amplifer like the Boostaroo

Salada,
if you put lots of components in a board you will have A LOT of noise interference coming from the components interfering in the sound circuit. I had an HP Ipaq and it was just like that (lots of noise whichever button you pressed). Even Ipod sound is not great regarding sound quality. That´s why if you want really great sound quality, you have to forget about portability and go for either a great CD player or, if you want mp3 (forget about less than 320kbps) a pretty nice rig would consist of an mp3 player + amplifier. It could go up to around us$ 1k, not even considering the headphones.

I totally agree with what you're saying, but noise cancellation on the output is not a new science, and something which would have been welcomed on the N95!

I've got a set of ER4P headphones which are about the best you can get. However they kill the N95. Just bring out everything that's wrong with the sound quality. The N95 is an OK music player but don't expect too much.

Fully concur mate.
I have a pair of beyerdynamics, I bought them in the 80's and they have never let me down. They just don't seem to like digitaly recorded music.
My better half bought a pair of sony MDRV150's, just £7.99 from play.com and they seem to be the best headphones by a mile for the price. maybee they are more suited to the digital prosessing that music goes through nowerdays..........when I was a lad and all that!!!!!!!!
They just seem to bring out the best in digital music.
IMO, one of the best features on the N95 is the 3.5mm headphone jack. Top marks to nokia for that

headphone wise, the best would be ultimate ears 11 pro.. but they'll run you about 1200 dollars... what I recommend with these are a nice pair of in-ears. since you'll be running around with these in busy environments choose one thats comfortable and seals out noise. the shure series are a good try, same as the higher end sony in-ears.
