I picked up one of these from this guy. Very fast delivery only 4 days from ordering it to getting in delivered here in England. The only problem I had is that the lens cover did open open properly (reverted back to original) and after only 1.5 days the black coating on the facia has rubbed significantly.

I've emailed the guy about the face plate and will let you know if he offers a replacement.

Maybe I should have stuck with the genuine Nokia kit but then would be stuck with the silver buttons right?

BTW - I haven't found a kit with black inserts for the part around the media keys or the silver section just about the numeric keys - anyone seen one?

no kits with black inserts above the keypad - this would require you to replace the middle section of the phone casing.

Hi Guys.

Had my N95 about 2 weeks now and the first thing I thought was .... This would look really COOL with a BLACK cover.

Well I got my phone unlocked the other week and at the same time I got a GOLD cover. After about 15mins of checking out the cover I found it to be CRAP. Very flimsy battery cover .... Every time I slid phone open the batt cover would come off in my hand. Also a LOT of light leakage on front cover ... Reminded me of BLACKPOOL on a dark night :).

When I got my phone I also ordered a BLACK cover, but due to the postal strike and a m8 being away on holiday I only got this cover today.
I got this cover from ebay.

LINK: Find GENUINE NOKIA BLACK HOUSING FASCIA FOR N95 PHONES on eBay within Other Nokia Fascias, For Nokia, Mobile Phone Fascias, Mobile Home Phones (end time 05-Oct-07 17:00:00 BST)

I have just tried out the back cover. Fits great. NO loose fitting battery cover etc. I had to remove the two speaker shield on the back cover as the phone already has two shields. Sadly I couldn't replace the front cover as the screwdriver that comes with the kit doesn't fit the screws.

Once I get the right screwdriver I'll replace the front cover and let you all know how it fairs. May upload a couple of pics to let you all see it in its full glory.

TC :)

yeah. i had a feeling the new batch were too good to be true.

on a side note, more sad news.. i went to Chadstone shopping centre today here in Melbourne and it seems that GMask has GONE! Was so disappointed.. I'm going to contact Gmask online to see if there are any other stalls around Melbourne - they didn't update their site.

Thumbs up

After trying various flat bladed screwdrivers I found that I could undo the screws of the front cover....all bar one (There's Always One).
After racking my brain I remembered an old m8 that lived a few streets away that I hadn't seen for ages. (He's into electronics) bound to have the tools I need.
So I nipped round to see him. After raking in his kit he managed to come up with a T-6 X 75 screwdriver. Funny thing is the one that came with the cover is also a T6 but is wouldn't fit? must be badly machined at the busines end?

Anyway I got home and replaced cover. The cover fits perfect - BACK & FRONT. there is a tiny bit of light leakage on either side of the top keypad near the slide rails but its hardly noticeable.

The FRONT cover is made of a Diecast metal. The BACK cover is made of Plastic.
My N95 now looks COOL in BLACK.

After reading all you guys reports about scratching on paint etc I'll have to get back to you on that one. I have gave the Front cover a few rubs and so far no paint has come off. Things might be different once the phone has been in my pocket for a few days?

I'll now give the new cover a weeks trial and see how it goes, then get back to you all with the results.

TC

PS...Note to self. (Must remember to take photos of new cover to show the guys)

hey guys,

i am too after the 'black look'.

after hunting around on another forum i have been led to believe that the aluminium housings don't scratch as easily as the cheaper housings around on ebay. this is one example one guy suggested;

GENUINE NOKIA BLACK HOUSING FASCIA FOR N95 PHONES

any thoughts on that particular item? any of you guys tried it?

my other plan is to order a complete OEM kit, sand all the parts down and spray it with some vinyl dye paint. im just wondering about the bits of plastic which are part of the phone and not the housing like the area above and beside the keypad.. does anyone know if this piece of plastic is removable for painting?

also.. if i did do all of this would i lose my warranty?

tia

Wow that one looks pretty legit, even if its not actually OEM as the seller claims. And yes you will likely void your warranty.

Please let us know how this conversion goes for you, I am really excited because this is the first one that I have seen which appears to be of decent quality.

It is amazing isn't it.

Compared to other non-OEM all-over housing, this is probably up to the OEM quality, as others would have slightly mis-fitting keys, different sized icons and logos, a few scratches and simply slightly mis-fitting housings! lol.

Yeah let us know Tia. Thanks.
