Help Help Help

Think I may have buggered up my phone?

I had a go at replacing my new cover today - (Sat 1st Dec 2007).

Took off - Back & Front covers.

I then dismanteld the slider part. I took 1 look at the printed circut board on the slider and though NO. (you would have to remove the Circut board and put onto new slider. Someone with the proper know how and tools could maybe do it but for me this looked like to much of a hard job?)

Anyway having done this I then had to put it all back together. I came unstuck putting back the LCD RIBBON.

I finally found on the service manual that it goes INTO the CONNECTOR.
After a LOT of fiddling about I thought I had it but after replacing covers etc and switching phone on there was the nokia loading tone but nothing on the screen????

Looks like its back to the drawing board?

TC

BTW...... For those of you that buy the same cover kit as me look at the TOP (S60) KEYPAD - The Keypad when phone is closed.

THIS PICTURE IS FROM beauchampy's kit

You'll note that on beauchampy's keypad the BLUE (MENU KEY) is on the left and the GRAY (MULTIMEDIA KEY) is on the right.

On the KEYPAD on my kit these ICON's are reversed?
GRAY MULTIMEDA KEY (LEFT). BLUE MENU KEY (RIGHT)

I shouldn't think it will make any difference to the functioning of the phone? but Im just letting you guys know.

Alright chaps.

Not sure what you've managed to do there TopCat but it sounds like either you've damaged the screen connector cable or you just don't have it plugged in correctly. If i were you I'd probably just dismantle the whole thing and try again If I remember correctly the connector for the screen cable is a simple plug in and apply some very light pressure affair... Shouldnt need much force if any.

As for the paint job on my kit. It's been almost a month and there is some slight rubbing around the top of the screen, around edges (see pic). I think this is largely due to me getting it out of the pocket of my jeans all the time..

Doesn't bother me too much though as everything else seems to be holding up just fine. If it gets bad I'll just buy a new face for the screen.

hmmm.. seemed too good to be true that the quality could be that good to withstand any paint rubbing off - good thing I purchased an invisibleShield full body kit to use with the new housing i'm waiting for.

@TopCat - your post was kind of confusing but it seems like the complete changeover of the middle band of the housing is quite complicated. Hopefully when I have a go at doing this, I won't bugger up any parts of the phone, especially any of the internal cabling

Its ok lads, panic over.

It was the LCD RIBBON that wasn't inserted properly. I had another fiddle with it , using a pair of tweesers to slot it into place. Phones ok and the cover looks good.
I may do what beauchampy done and spray the veiewable parts of the slider.
There is a little light leakage around the edge but I may stick a thin layer of BLUETAC/SILLY PUTTY along that to hide the light and further seal the cover.

huey85,
I hope you have the patience of a saint when it comes to swapping out your internal slider board.
As I mentioned. I had a look and thought of doing it but the PCB (Printed Circut Board) looked very flimsy. It seemed to bend very easy when I tried to get it off the support posts.
I did manage to lever it off one of the support posts but then I looked at the others and though NO, this is to risky, one wrong move and the board would be bent or worse.
Huey85,
I have tried to find some pics on the net of the PCB but with no luck just to show you what your up against. I did manage to find replacement KEYPAD PCB's (this is what you'll have to remover) on ebay. so this pic is from there.

You'll note the small/tiny holes on the bottom right of the picture and one on the bottom left - this is the one that I leavered off.

Hey Beauchampy,

I just found out that I cant replace the BOTTOM cover of my new kit as there is the microphone & Antenna embedded into the bottom of the original. How did you manage to remove these parts???

Thanks
TC
