N95 Sat Nav
Hi, The N95 is the best phone I've had for ages but the only let down is you have to pay for a licence for the sat nav function. The other problem is when I've installed Tomtom Mobile 6.01 it wont find the internal GPS Antenna it only looks for bluetooth GPS antennas. Does anyone know if their is any way round not paying for the licence or a sat nav software package that works on the N95

Definately not. At least you're not going to find anything like that here. We're pro-Nokia and a software hack that enables you to steal from Nokia wouldn't go over well.
Sorry!
I have word from TomTom that they are currently testing an update for TT6 to work with internal GPS units, I'll let you know when I get word.

Thanks for your reply. The only reason I said about a hack was because I spent $600 on this phone and I expected such service to be included.
I await you reply regarding tomtom.
thanks again

When you byu an off the shelf GPS device, you always have to pay for software, and in most cases also each map you download. If you downloaded every map in the world, you would be looking at hundreds possibly thousands of dollars.
With Nokia Maps, it wouldnt cost you a cent to do exactly that. You only pay for navigation, and only when you need it. It was ultra convenient for me last week when travelling to an airport via car, and going somewhere on a holiday for few days, to pay £4.50 for a 1 week license.
I can still use the 'start tracking' function of Nokia Maps to 'Plan a route' and see my progress of that route. The only thing you dont get is 'Navigation' (Turn here, speed, distance, etc, 'voice' nav) and sometimes its simply not required.
So far I've been very happy and the GPS side of things has only cost me £4.50. If I was to do the same in TomTom thus far it would have cost me far in excess of £150(?) (Software + 2 maps)

TomTom software and maps for USA/Canada only costs 150 USD, or 75 GBP, at most. European software/maps of 20 countries runs about the same. I can't remember where you're from (no location in user info :P ) Were you traveling outside of your continent on holiday?
I do agree, however, that the Nokia GPS solution is not a bad deal, just depends on your needs. I think for the most part, the solution provided for the N95 is entrirely adequate.
Soon, the TomTom option will exist for those who would have the need a full time navigation package (such as myself). For users of dedicated TomTom packages, the included GPS software solution is not an equal.

Yeah I agree, the pricing is reasonable.
I was just wondering.. say if you buy the navigation (turn-by-turn voice navigation) for one country.. if you buy it for another country does it replace your current one? Say for example, I'm in the UK.. if I got to Spain do I need to buy another one? will it replace it?!

I can't be sure, but I can't imagine you would need a seperate subscription for different countries. Should be worldwide once you subscribe, perhaps there is some globe trotter out there that can confirm for us?
Edit- Oops.. .might be eating me words
