Debranding question - HELP

Okay so I've played around with my N95 and added a few applications here and there but now I want to debrand it b/c my stupid carrier blocks the feature where I can set my music as ringtones. Do I need to know anything vital before I start the process? Do I need to reset to factory condition before I debrand (if so, how do I reset). Are there any chances my phone may have problems after I debrand? Will I lose anything off the phone after I debrand? Will I still have the same ability to use GPS and the same maps and everything? Is it possible to reset a debrand to get it back to how my carrier had it set up (if I for some reason want to go back to the original set up).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Again - read the Tips and FAQs and search the forum for what you don't find there. All your questions have already been asked and answered dozens of times.

Take your time.

I've read quite a bit into it actually, but I'm the paranoid type. I have to ask the question myself and get the answer directly or it never sits well with me :-(.

Wasting the time of other forum members to answer repeatedly the same questions over and over again doesn't sit well with them either.

Do I need to know anything vital before I start the process? - Yes, it will void your warranty

Do I need to reset to factory condition before I debrand (if so, how do I reset). - No, the debranding consists of changing the product code of your handset plus installing different firmware from the one you currently have. The second operation has the same effect as a hard reset. Read the Tips for the difference between hard and soft reset and how to perform them.

Are there any chances my phone may have problems after I debrand? - Yes

Will I lose anything off the phone after I debrand? - Yes, read what happens after a hard reset. you will also lose all restrictions crippling your handset with it's current branded firmware.

Will I still have the same ability to use GPS and the same maps and everything? - Absolutely yes.

Is it possible to reset a debrand to get it back to how my carrier had it set up (if I for some reason want to go back to the original set up). - Only if there is a branded firmware with the same or higher version of the firmware you have installed on the handset. For example, if you install generic V.20 you cannot go back to Rogers V.11. You can only get Rogers V.20 or higher, if and when such a release happens. You only need to change back your product code to the original one and install the new firmware, NSU will automatically load the correct version for each product code.

Statistically the chances are you are male, same as myself and Mr. G, so I hope you mean that in a non-sexual way.

If you are female, double welcome and we want pictures

I was killing time at home anyway and decided to spare someone else's time instead
