Oh No! Not Another Updating Question...
Is it possible to update the firmware without connecting to NSU?
Sadly my net connection isn't up to much and i've read elsewhere that a reasonably fast connection is necessary in order to complete the installation of the new firmware.
I'm a little concerned that my O2 mobile broadband (dial-up more like!!!) isn't up to the job leaving my n95-2 bricked via a disconnect...or something.
Has anyone updated using a slower connection other than broadband before?
Cheers

No can't update without NSU without some other heavy duty equipment. However I was under the impression that the NSU downloads the update and then applies it to your phone so a slow connection shouldn't cause too much of a problem. I am prepared to stand corrected though.

If that's the case, that the NSU downloads the firmware before installing, would it be possible to upgrade offline? - i.e.: run the NSU afterward? or is the live connection needed?
I'm not too worried about overall download speeds - it's the random disconnects that are making me hesitate :(

Well I can't think of a safe way to even try that. NSU won't attempt download without a phone connected and once that process has started I wouldn't want to try disconnecting the phone for fear of bricking the phone.

NSU stores the firmware files on the computer for sure, I had upgraded my firmware when it was released and then a few days ago when I went to do it for a friend NSU didn't download the firmware again but used the cached copy. I am not sure if disconnecting mobile in the middle would be feasible but yes once downloaded the same firmware can be applied to any number of N-95s for which it is applicable without downloading again.

You can download, and install an update offline, providing you have either Phoenix, or Nokia Care Suite, but you really need to know what your doing with this expensive software.

its ok. even if you're disconnected, it will attempt to resume the download. if the timeout is too long, at most you'll have to start over again. NSU only starts updating the firmware after the file has been fully downloaded

Before Nokia let the Firmware Updating tool loose on us simple folk, I think they put some hard work into making it as easy as possible.
In fairness, the tool allows many utter morons to update their firmware at the touch of a button, with great success, which is pretty clever I think.
Aside from unplugging the phone while the update itself is in progress, I would expect the software to take care of any non-user issues, such as the download speed etc.
If you've not de-branded and it bricks on the update, I think you would have a good case for a warrenty fix anyhow, mate.
