It just sucks we gotta pay up front...Like if I want it for a full year I gotta pay 95 dollars or so.

Why couldn't we just add data plans? Like the Iphone...When ever you use the gps you pay...instead of having people pay for certain amount of days/months/years if they most likely won't use it for those many days/months/years.

GPS on all Nokias is free.

Navigation usually costs (depending on software).

Navigation on the iphone is not yet available (I dont count google maps as proper satnav since it doesnt update instructions based on your position).

From what I understand Nav4all is not any good...I decided to give AmazeGPS a try and it's really not bad. Used it on a road trip a couple wks ago and it worked fine for nav. Lousy for POI's however

ive been using Garmins Mobile XT? with my n95(us version) built in GPS with no problems ...
I have a friend who uses another software - i believe TomTom with it as well..
I have not heard of the GPS being locked to other applications ??
Is this a problem with the euro versions? I have actually had some sync issues with Nokia maps .. but othe programs that use GPS to check location and area surounding you like Earthcomber and such work perfectly with the built in GPS receiver

I used AmazeGPS for a short trip to test it out and it worked fine for me. POI could have been better as FLDUDE99 says....but I think I can live with AmazeGPS.
