Try viewranger.com, I suspect this really would fit the bill. Basically, its OS maps on your phone, but you can use the GPS to locate yourself on it.

For those interested in max speed, mine happily logged 580mph on my "jog" fom Dublin airport to Blackpool airport. It took it less than 10 secs to get a lock and maintained the lock throughout the entire flight.

Well, just took the plunge and had my first run today - with the sports tracker of course. Bloody cool application I must say! Seems very slow uploading data now though - is this usually the case?

EDIT: Funny how unfit I am! Took 19 minutes to run 3km, the 10km 'fun run' (if there is such a thing) in a fortnights time is not going to be my idea of fun!
EDIT EDIT: Finally uploaded data, I'm really impressed with this application - almost makes it fun to take a jog (almost).

N95 Sports Tracker speed discrepancy

hi!

i have been playing around the with the sports tracker for a few months and have noticed some discrepancies in speed recordings. to show the errors, we recently did the aids walk new york and the results are here

Nokia Sports Tracker Beta

you will notice that my max walk speed is 72km/hr which is way, way out of this world speed. my officemates saw the workout and said that i would be a cinch to win in the beijing olympic games.

any idea what causes this discrepancy? the route as shown tracked it completely but the max speed and pace are unusual anomalies.

also, i did a more than 4 hour bike ride and the battery ran out on the n95. i can suggest though that you try to get one of these as a battery backup.

cheers..

inverbras there are several things that can cause discrepencies especially in NY. If you loose your signal or if it gets down to 1 sattelite and then picks up again it can show a quick jump in distance from where it thought you were to where you actually are and this quick jump will make it look like you were going rather fast. Also lots of military equipment will really mess with the GPS signal and give you erroneous data making the program think all kinds of things are going on.

thanks for your inputs. that will help explain why the speed is so.

also, i was able to find ways to make manual changes to the wayward data results here

Tried using this a few times now - aiming to ultimately use it as a training tool, we'll see!

I've been practising using car journeys, however, so far I've only managed one successful trip and that only lasted 5 minutes!
All others end about one minute in. Satelite locks OK, speed appears accurate and the map shows the route but suddenly everything stops apart from the timer.
I've left it to see what happens but it doesn't get going again - just counts up time.
I have checked location tagger and that still shows that the GPS is locked.

Anyone got any thoughts as to what I can do?!
All the settings seem to make sense to me.....!
