Just wait until it's been out for a while and if reports are good then go for it.
You won't be able to go back though.

If you can update to v.20 then theres no need to de-brand.

If you've had to alter your product code to install the latest firmware, then you've effectively de-branded it by installing generic firmware, not supplied by your telco.

I'd advise, when upgrading firmware, to back up in PC-Suite and after the upgrade, to restore ONLY your contacts, nothing else... Then rebuild the phone from scratch.
I'd also advise that you should backup your memory-card (or extra memory) to the PC, then format the card before upgrading the firmware as any programs on the card may try to reinstall themselves when the phone boots up, this can cause icons to appear in the menu that aren't functional.
In your particular case, I'd hard-reset the phone after backing up and formatting the extra memory, then try choosing ONLY the contacts from PC-Suite backup to restore.
If they fail to restore, perhaps you could transfer the contacts from your SIM card, if it has them there?
