refresh music is on v21

hi everybody, i notice about the new firmware and read how a lot of people wondering where is the refresh button on the music player is, well if nobody has stumbled upon it. It is in the music/podcast menu, there's an option there to refresh. Enjoy the new firmware

Give you a little tip.. if you switch your phone to Music Player mode when connecting over USB and use Windows Media Player and the like to copy music accross, you'll never have to use the Refresh Music button :-)

and V21's been out for the N95-1 for a while now :-)

Of course it is possible to use also any other soft like Winamp or even Windows Explorer. If you are Mac user then I don't know the case but if you are using some Linux then it is possible to configure AmaroK but unfortunately that won't work always.

You completely missed my point...

If you use Media Player mode to put music on your device (with WinAmp, Windows Media Player and the like) you WON'T need to refresh your music library once your done..

If you use Data Transfer mode and Windows Explorer, (or WinAmp, Windows Media Player and the like) you will need to refresh your library once it's done...

Indeed, Napster doesn't need a refresh either.

However, if you manually put files on, the refresh on my N95 8Gb can take anything up to half an hour (around 650 tracks at the moment).

Is this normal?

I meant Media Player mode for Windows Explorer too. At least it works that way with Vista. Maybe someone should check it with XP too.

Actually you're right... It just doesn't come up as a drive letter, comes up in a seperate window instead...

Do you still need to refresh your library after using it like that?

No, I don't. For phone it doesn't matter which app you are using on PC. It is still the same (Media Player) connection type. As far as I know most applications use even the same routines to put music on handset so it doesn't matter.

Additionally there is also the second way to avoid Refresh button but it is not as good as USB cable so it is rather a detail. Here you can get application Home Media Server but this solutions has disadvantages:
1. You need to have your own LAN network at home
2. Speed limitation will be always max 54 mbit per second
3. You need wi-fi router so you can have your PC and N95 in the same net
4. Your media files must be shared with others via Home Media Server so it is bad if you don't use firewall on your router or at least NAT
5. I think that it creates little mess on card in the phone (all music stored in the same folder)
