NEVER underestimate the power of large numbers of computer geeks that all want the same thing
all you need to do is tell them they CAN'T do it and it will be done

There is no doubt that NSU knows which prod code was used for the most recent update on your device evidently. When I upgraded to V20 I changed code to EURO since it was taking forever to be released to the NA code. I then changed it back to the NA code after upgrading, although I don't see any difference in how the handset functions on either code. Now I get the error msg on NSU, but if I change to the EURO code it tells me V21 is available (which I'm not interested in anyway). So GSI is correct in his original assertion IMO. Doesn't really matter now but may with a new handset down the road
Update: I suggested this same thing on the Nokia forum..guess what? I got banned the next day! lol

It may not matter now, but if Nokia decide to filter out and 'blacklist' IMEIs that don't match up with their original product codes, it would.. They could even brick your phone - iPhone style
Down the track they could also implement a system that checks against the IMEI rather than the product code..

I think computer geeks are wonderful, undervalued individuals.
They devote large chunks of thier life fiddling with code to make our lives better.
If there are any really clever types reading this, i hope you can solve this potential problem we may be facing.
I guess what we need is before updating to a new (if one comes out) firmware, is someone who can test it out for us. I followed this guide on here and changed mine to the euro sand 1 code. I guess thouands of others have done the same. So if people start posting that it kills your phone, at least some of us will heed the warning.

Does anyone know what port the NSU works on? IF they do packet scanners are readily available I would love to see what it is sending, product code wise :P

Read sp00k's reply, yes they can, if you've changed the product code, and then used Nokia Software Updater, there's a mark against your phone's IMEI that says 'There was a time when this phone was set to not the original product code'
