As an aside... From that, it's obvious that when you connect to the Nokia Updater, your phone is scanned... What other data is gleaned from these scans I wonder?
This means that updating the firmware using NSU enables Nokia to put in whatever obstacles to updating to non-authorised firmware that it wishes.
Is there a way of installing firmware
without connecting to the Nokia servers? If so, Nokia bars to certain firmware will be totally ineffective and we'll be able to modify OUR OWN handsets without any restrictions!
Footnote... I looked into this some time back and according to what I read, at some stage during the NSU upgrade, the firmware to be installed is downloaded to the PC, installed to the phone and then erased. Whilst this firmware is obviously copyrighted to Nokia and the distribution of it would be copyright-infringement, if the OP is correct, then I believe that there may be said to be some justification in attempting to by-pass such restrictions.
