Firmware

lol new to these types of phones never needed to Upgrade the Firmware, but I am having problems with my phone baught in Canada recently, it is a 11.2 RM-421, my NSU dosent work, it dosent seem to want to find my phone, updated the PC Suite, aswell as the NSU to comp. with vista, and ive tried everything, so my question is with firmwares like these, is there really a need to upgrade the firmware?, I doubt theres any security issues involved, i mean it would save me alot of fusturation, aswell as another problem with my Youtube being in Spanish language only, and not being able to find a English header. I was told my IP is sent out as a Spanish source?.

Unless you have double checked this then it may not be the case, it was only a guess.

And if it is then that is down to your ISP not your phone.

Type *#0000# on the phone and tell us exactly what it returns.

My n95-4 prefers the Beta N series version of pc suite. maybe it will work better for you...

Nokia - Nseries PC Suite 2.0

If it turns out that you are already using that version of PC Suite then maybe you will have better luck with the traditional PC Suite....

thank you 2.0 did work, it did locate the phone but says the 11.2 version is the latest which I know is because of my NAM version, id have to change product code, which i wont since i had bad luck with phones and dont want to void my warranty, another question though, i tried reinstalling the firmware, but gets stuck at 70.9 mb upload...nsu was still working, but it was idle on 70.9mb for about 30 min, decided to just press cancel, should i of just waited?

I have never reinstalled firmware using NSU so I don't know how long it should take.

You can get the same result as reinstalling by just pressing *#7370# which will reformat your phone back to factory settings the way it was the day you got it. Your contacts and messages and everything on the phones memory will be lost.

I do a complete sync with the syncing utility and that saves my contacts, notes and bookmarks. I have not figured out a way to save webfeeds though as they do not seem to sync with the rest of the bookmarks. Fortunately I only use three of them so it is not much hassle resubscribing.

I have note files with the URL's for my video podcasts so after a reformat I am able to cut and paste them back into the podcasting client. I

The separate 8 gig memory will not be changed so your music and stuff does not need any backing up. As a matter of fact I keep some .sis files on my memory of my phone so after a reformat I can easily install my core applications.

On the subject of upgrading firmware... It is not something you should feel you have to do. If there is something about your phone that you are unhappy with and it is corrected by newer firmware then you should consider the upgrade but if you are happy with the phone then don't worry about the firmware.

But be aware that every time you post a problem on the forum the first thing you are going to get is update the firmware, To which you can reply you are already as up to date as your phone allows and then you can discuss your problem.
