N95 Bluetooth PBAP Support??
Since Nokia don't seem to be supporting the PBAP profile anymore (please, tell me there is hope), is there any app available that gets round the lack of Bluetooth PBAP on the N95 and similar Symbian phones?
I've tried the Nokia_810_contacts_manager is a bit hit and miss.
Can anyone help?

It's used for transferring your stored phone book (your contacts) and SMS messages from the phone to a factory installed bluetooth car kit, it's a standard that most of the car manufactures have adopted for their BT car kits and Nokia have it spot on with their non symbian phones, my old 6230i worked perfectly with my BT car kit.
I assumed (stupidly) that Nokias flagship would have pbap support, it does not.

Unfortunately no, this is for when the BT car kit is a phone already and you just want it to remotely access your sim card details, it uses a different protocol to connect and transfer the details.
Loads of people have complained about this lack of functionality and Nokia have made rumberlings that they may include pbap support for the handset, if they don't then i will be looking for a new handset that does, and so will a lot of other people, something as simple as crappy BT support will spoil a fantastic phone IMO, even the iphone has pbap support (apparently).

Please don't use foul language on the forums....
But seriously, AFAIK you're the first person to ask that question here. It's may very well be due to Nokia's own car kits they have out there now, and forcing people to use them. If that's true then it's pretty low-play, but would explain why they have ditched support for it and therefore I guess, probably won't support it again. I am just hazarding a guess here, it's not a feature I've come across/used. Of course, if that would turn you off an N95 then to be honest, I don't think the N95 is for you. No offence intended, but it does so many other things that if they are of no use to you, then well.... I think you get the picture. For what it's worth, I hope they implement it for you.

My apologies, no offense intended.

Agreed, but a quick Google search will show up loads of complaints.

I suspect you are correct, the Nokia car kits are OK but don't offer any sort integration with the car other than telemute (even that's not a nokia product).

Agreed, they are there to sell their own products and I have no beef with that, but pbap is a standard that most car manufactures support, you'd think that nokia would support it, just so they can sell more phones to the people that can use it.

hmmm, as you say pretty low-play, but I think it's just not supported as apposed to ditched (AFAIK it's never been supported on symbian), also if that was the case why have it supported on s40 phones?

Unless you have OEM BT in your car then you probably wouldn't, but it's a nice feature to have if you can use it, and since BT is being incorporated in loads of cars as standard then it's a must really.

Non taken :) but the phone book transfer is a must for any BT car kit profile, you'd think.

Don't get me wrong, I love the phone, it has every thing I want in a head held device, phone, 5mp camera, video recorder, mp3 player (BT stereo headset profile) movie viewer and pic viewer, wifi etc.
It would just be perfect if it just had pbap, being able to see (from sim phonebook) who's calling before i pickup or reject a call is quite frankly a no brainer IMO.

Me too, many thanks for the reply.

Just to add , My 2003 BMW comes with factory fit bluetooth, my SE K800i works perfectly with the bmw, but my n95 8GB will only answer calls and you have to dial on the handset but still talk using the car kit. The phone book is not transfered like the k800i did. A non n-series nokia worked fine so guessing nokia have left something out on these devices.

Yeap. My kit also uses the whole display do tell me the number: "UNAVAILABLE". Great.
Like you say, to top it off, All my previous older phones work fine.
Biggest dissappointment for me was pairing up my MD's E65 to his spanking new Merc, and it didn't access the phonebook. He then pulled out his 3 yeard old beaten up RAZR, which worked fine!
Would be nice to get an official answer on it. Thanks for starting the thread, very intereesting.

N95 and Mini Bluetooth
I have just upgraded to an N95 and it does look good and works well. I have also just taken delivery of a new Mini Clubman with the most up to date BMW bluetooth car kit (and BMW software) and whilst it pairs it did not transfer the adress book. My old 6230i worked fine.
I found a download application from Nokia for their 810 car kit which if you load on to the the N95 it sort of works with the adress book on the screen. Most times its fine but ocasioanlly it locks the phone. Other times it just cuts the connection so its by no means ideal or perfect. It is better than nothing and is more legal than using the handset. I see it as a short term fix.
Here is the link to the software.
Nokia Europe - Nokia 810 Phone Support Software
I have emailed both Nokia and BMW and both of them say its not their problem its the other.
I believe it is down to Nokia to resolve and I am sure it cannot be that hard unless they do want us all to go out and buy Nokia car kits.

And I'm sure Nokia's kit would be fine! I've been here before. Bluetooth should be a standard - they should all pull their fingers out and get it to work correctly across all makes so that the consumer has freedome of choice.
Anyway. Nice one fella, I'll give the link a try with my kit.
