Non-Skype free VOIP calls on N95

Although my provider (Three UK) gives me several thousand free Skype minutes a month on my X-Series Silver plan, I can't get Fring to work properly and other so-called "free" Skype programs make chargeable phone calls to London numbers.

Are there any other (i.e. non-Skype) VOIP programs available which work on Symbian phones like the N95? I'm looking for a simple, reliable freeware program, or maybe a shareware one with a trial period.

Only the special '3' provided version of Skype will work with your 'Skype free calls'. Other than that most people would recommend Fring. Since you're having troubles you may want to check out Truphone.

Also your free minutes with Skype does not include SkypeOut (needed to call landline numbers). It is only useful to call people actually connected to Skype.

Let us know how you go!

Quick question - you are not suggesting that Skype calls made with a non 3-branded N95 (bought it privately) won't come off my free call allowance, are you?

One problem with Fring is that it doesn't work on Speakerphone and I don't know if calls can be bluetoothed to my BT car stereo.

Skype calls made with Fring will NOT come off your free call allowance, i.e. You will be using your internet quota for them not your free call quota. Just so we're clear, you must use the special 3 version of Skype to make use of your free Skype allowance.

I've never tried speakerphone with Fring, but I can tell you that it will work with your BT car kit as ANY kind of audio is routed through any kind of BT Audio extension (i.e. headphones, headset, car kit, etc) so no problems there.

Hope that helps!

With your rateplan you're better off calling through Truphone or Voipcheap to call london numbers if they are landlines, as its free. Save your free minutes from 3 for mobiles.
Also, fring is nice as it does it all, but its not as good as the real products. Skype through skype itself seems alot better quality, same goes for the SIP calling.

I agree..I tried Fring and never re-installed it after the V20 upgrade. It just is plain poor quality imo.
