Another Divx / MP4 question.
Hey guys,
I feel like i have been milking of all your knowledge since i joined this forum, and after searching and geting confused I need to again.
I've downloaded the Divx player as im having no luck with the Realplayer or Coreplayer. Neither of the two will search through movies when forward/rewinding, and all the movies I've tried to watch have frozen on me while the sound continues. I've used Nokia movie manager to transfer the files which have all started out as .avi and obviously been converted to mp4.
I've tried transfering the files by the data transfer option, and drag & drop the files into my video folder. It seems that the files are automatically being converted to .mp4 again, and not showing up in the Divx player, I'm assuming Divx player doesn't support .mp4?
So basically after a long boring whinge how can I transfer .avi files without them being converted to mp4, and watch a movie without it freezing up half way through?
Any help is much appreciated.

if its freezing or jittering when using avi files, it means that the bitrate is too high for the phone to decode smoothly.
you could find a software to rencode the avi files so that the bitrate is lower, and the resolution fits the phone better. iirc its 320x248

Coreplayer will play divx/xvid avi files, but runs into what appears to be a decoding problem. 350MB per hour is about the limit for my phone but at that bitrate the video is watchable. You'll get some jitters in fast scenes, but it always seems to catch up.
I recently reencoded a bunch of movies for a trip to play in RealPlayer at 640x480 for the TV out. I used an mp4 container and encoded using Super with the XVID codec at ~800kbps and "top quality" checked. These were about 400 Meg each and played very smoothly but the quality had obviously gone down a bit.

Are these full movies you have on your pc?
Have you tried re-sizing them first to 320x240?

Connect your phone to your pc,hit 'pc suite' on the handset, then copy your .avi straight from your HD into E:\My Videos.
Once you open DivX,just refresh the list (via options) and...voila! - one mobile avi movie :)
