VOIP apps for N95?
Hello!
Suggestions on a VOIP app for my phone please! I am going to be travelling overseas and the phone charges are OUTRAGEOUS...$1.99 per minutes on top of other charges. If I can use VOIP, I might be charged less....
Please tell me what you use and how it works!
Many thanks!

Yeah, Gizmo or Truphone. When it comes to Gizmo, don't install Gizmo5, but just go for the GizmoVoIP plug-in. You may also convince your home/residential VoIP provider to give you the details so you can configure the N95 SIP port manually. I did manage that, and I'm happy. I use Fring for Skype, and so far it works fine.

Kinda related to this ... I have recently set up voipcheap and am finding that although it's set to 'register when needed' after finishing a voip call I have to go into Tools > Connectivity > Internet Tel and manually disconnect from the service. Failure to do this means that the wifi remains active and the voipcheap service remains registered.
Anyone know of any way to have the service de-register of its own accord after finishing the call?
Is this the same for all manually configured voip services?

I guess register when needed does not mean deregister when needed Btw, what does "register when needed" mean after all? Does your SIP port become activated automatically once you submit a request for an Internat call? Mine doesn't.

Looks like it. At least on mine. To make it easy, I made a shortcut on the "desktop," although, I reckon, it's very easy to forget it registered.

Well, if I initiate an Internet call I am prompted with:
"Phone not registered, with internet telephone service. Register now?"
All I do is hiy yes and within seconds it's dialled. So I guess it's not fully auto but close.
Good plan re the shortcut, I will do that now!

Here's what I get when initiating an Internet call: "Requesting registration" and "Internet telephone service not available." I hence gotta go via the whole Internet tel. route ("Discovering services" etc.). Yours so far sounds more straightforward, closer to the automatic ideal.
Update: Okay, I get it, you went with the "Saved connection networks" option, that's why it behaves this way (i.e. "semi-automatic"). I kept wondering what this "Saved connection networks" option might be up to ... (see the thread I started some time ago, at which nobody bothered answering). I'm now wondering what happens in case one saves the same connection for multiple SIP accounts (Truphone, Gizmo, VoIPBuster etc.)--which is my case. Which one gets fired up in case an Internet call gets initiated?

I'd forgotten I'd seleceted to save the connection on first registration, but yes I think you are right there.
As for multiple SIP accounts, I couldn't tell you as I only have the one. I used to use Truphone but then they began charging ;-)
Using voipcheap I can get free calls to landlines in most countries (although I only use it for UK). It's all I need.
Would be interested to hear your findings though Aqua.

Fring for Skype works very well...and so does Truphone.
