Problems installing and using smart2go

yo...finally i got this new toy....anyway ive downloaded the smart2go from internet and copy it directly into the microSD and plug it into the phone....but problems come up...

1. Dont know how to install it...i went to menu > file manager, then i found the file (the actual smart2go program), tried to install it..everything seems fine..then when it (the installation) finished...i tried to look for the program icon (the smart2go icon) but i couldnt..what happens?

2. using the smart2go maploader to download some maps in pc, take ages...like 2hrs+ for a 17MB map....is it normal ? and a while after the downloading, a msg pop up and saying "something is damage, pls run chdisk blah blah blah...." gosh......anyone got the same program b4?

Can i pls ask if anyone know how to use this smart2go thing (from the very beginning installation till actually navigating, to share your experience..

thanks heapsss

You dont need to download smart2go, its already installed on the phone. On devices that have it preinstalled (such as the N95) it is called 'Maps'. You can find it in the applications folder.

You need to download the maps for your local area, though. First run the 'Maps' application on the phone at least once (this is required) and make sure your SD card is plugged into your phone when doing so. The maploader does take ages to download the maps. Only upside is you dont need to do it that often. If you've been having problems with being asked to run chkdsk and the like, you might want to try formatting your sd card and starting again from scratch. Bear in mind if you do, you will need to run the 'Maps' app on the phone at least once again to prepare it for downloading maps via the maploader on the pc. If you're running Vista there is quite a lot of patches pertaining to sd card compatibility problems so make sure you're up to date. Failing all else, your sd card might be damaged as it's not normal to receive those messages during a map download. Its like your sd card is losing connection as that is the kind of thing I would expect if you ripped it out in the middle of copying a file and then reinserted it. It could also be a faulty microsd to sd adapter your using? Definitely strange...

Check out the 'sticky' threads around here particularly the thread titled 'Problems obtaining your initial GPS lock' and you should be well and truly set to go! Good luck, and welcome to the forums!

I've yet to be able to download ANY maps - there simply isn't a program that I can download maps to my PC. I tried Nokia map loader - does not install; I tried smart2go, same thing; I tried mgpams, same thing. I do get some view but not too great resolution. Never have problems getting the lock on position.
I just don't know how to install any maps and transfer them to the phone/memory card.
Vista likely needs revamping here.
I will try to load everything to XP based computer...

I assume you tried to install Nokia map loader on your PC and not on your phone since it is a PC application. Not sure if it is Vista compatible though.

I'm running everything on Vista, having no problems at all, in fact, I find it to be more stable than my XP computer.

I am running Vista, I was able to install the map loader np. Make sure that you have the usb connection set to data transfer setting. Run the map loader and pick your maps. some of them are huge so you might need to free space on your SD.
