App to see number of witheld callers?

Someone I work with mentioned an app that can display information about a caller, specifically their phone number even if it's withheld or private etc.?

Does that really exist?

I didn't think there would be any way of doing it as I'm guessing the device making the call stops the number being sent out so a receiving device can't display info it doesn't receive?

Can anyone advise?

In the UK at least, even if you choose to withhold your number, it's still sent, the difference is that it's sent in such a way that the receiving device doesn't recognise it... Unless they have the necessary box of tricks to do so, that is...

Such devices are widely-used by those authorised to do so... as many hoax-callers have discoved too late!

When it really matters you call the operator and ask them to place the call for you. Tell them one of your numbers on your phone is stuck. :)

When it really really matters, there is TOR. Tor: anonymity online You can use that to get a prepaid card. To get the card paid for you send a money order. Then you use that for a prepaid phone, or if you can, use cash to buy a prepaid phone. Just make sure that they do not have you on camera getting the money order. This is very important stuff for people in countries like China. If you use TOR, make sure to wipe cookies before and after before going back online. Close IE in-between after deleting, otherwise the before and after cookies can be matched up.

Cool, cheers for the replies.
Do you know of a phone app like the box of tricks you mentioned that could decipher incoming withheld numbers?

Even if such an app were available, which I seriously doubt, it wouldn't be readily obtainable by mere mortals such as you and I !

Though the hardware version might well be, if you search the 'Net thoroughly enough... almost everything is there if you know where to look! Try the 'Spy Equipment' sites for a start...

BTW, if you're plagued by incoming 'with-held number' calls, there is software sold that will block them automatically... In case you weren't aware...

I've looked into this a bit more and apparently it's a code that can be entered into the phone that'll allow it to display the number...

I shall keep looking for the answer, see if I can find anything out...

Now that would be nice to have! But I have my doubts that there is such a code.

Keep looking! ;)

Red face witheld number

ok i have a friend who does this on his mobile and doesnt tel me how, all i know is he has a symbian fone and he downloaded some software that uses the internet like fring etc which allows him to divert calls to this software which then diverts them back to him using his credit tho, showing the number, this app was not made for this but does use diverts i also know it has something to do with 'israel' dnt ask me wat lol, i dont have a clue and if anyone finds anything please let me me know! plz!

it does work tho guaranteed ive seen it with my own eyes ps he also charges ppl just say £5 if they want to find out who is calling them on private so i charge ppl £10 lol but if ne1 wants to use it ask me

how it works: u place a divert on your mobile to his mobile number but only on 'divert if busy' so it only diverts when you cut a caller off whilst they are ringing you then he normally txs the number to you

interresting stuff

ps i like this forum and site sumtin different hey!

I had better make sure I never call you then.

I'm sure he's breaking some laws, and even more by accepting money for it.
