Nokia Map loader

Hi guys, Sorry in advance for being a noob but I just got my N95 Black 8gb yesterday. I'm having an issue with Nokia Map loader. First off I tried installing it on the actual phone but once it ran through I couldnt find the application to run anywhere. I installed Nokia Map loader on my laptop. I hook my phone up through USB and select my states map. I go to download it to the phone and it looks like its successful but when I start my GPS maps program on my phone is says something like " Memory almost full using mass memory instead."

I read on the map loader website that you need to have your phone on mass storage mode but all I have to pick from are "PC suite, Data xfer, Image print, and media player" It seems to me that the maps are installing on my phone memory instead of the 8Gb memory card and im not sure why. Can anyone clear up why this is happening? Also how will I know when I get the map on my phone successfully? Will it load alot faster in the Maps selection on my programs button? Sorry for all the dumb questions this phone is just confusing me right now =)

Oh yeah on a side note how come I cant download the full version of n-gage yet?? Anyone know how?

Not sure what you have done so far, but...

When you plug the phone in, it gives you the option of PC suite mode, etc. You should choose data transfer (or xfer!).

This should sort it out.

Also, you have to remember that before you install the actual maps, you have to run the program once on your phone. THEN you plug it into the PC/laptop and use the maploader. It should run fine.

One other thing worth mentioning....When I select data transfer mode it says " Data transfer mode active. Mass memory may not be used during this time"

Yes, it should say that. It means you cannot use it fro the phone. I.e. cannot access anything on it, like pictures or programs that are on it.

If you havent run it first then thats most likely the problem. At least Im hoping it is.

Unfortunatly I cannot remember how it installs. All I can say is try again, and when/if you find it, run it.

For me, its in:

Applications - my own - maps.

Its not called nokia maps or anything, just maps ( on mine anyway).

You install the Nokia Map Loader software on your PC only. Its should not show up in the Nokia Application Installer part of Nokia PC Suite. You also need the phone drivers that come with Nokia PC Suite.

So, donwload from the Nokia website and install on your PC the latest version of Nokia PC Suite

Install Nokia Map loader on your PC.

Run Maps on your phone and then exit.

Connect the phone to the PC and select Data Transfer mode. You will not be able to use the mass storage on your phone while this is active as the mass storage is being used by the PC. The phone and the PC can't both access the mass storage at the same time. Don't run Nokia PC Suite.

Run Nokia Map loader on the PC.

You should be able to select your map and download it to the phone.
