When a certain font is being used, the phone will load only the letters and symbols it needs for displaying the screen it is currently stationed at
If say, you were to remove the card (While the font was loaded) on the standby screen, it would only save the letters and symbols currently viewed in it's cache - So browsing around the phone afterwards, you would notice missing letters and symbols where they would normally be displayed
Now there's some meaningless fun we can have, with the only one being amused is myself lol

Fennario,screenshot form an E61 (i think),should work okay on the N95.

is the fontrouter really needed for the fonts to work? i always have to install/uninstall it so i can use 'mass memory'.

I think with an 8GB using the standard renaming method will not enable you to change the font in the future. Therefore fontrouter is the best (maybe only) otion.
