Symarctic ExtGPS! - Use your phone as an external GPS module!

Symarctic have just released ExtGPS - A new java application that allows you to use your N95 as an external GPS module for your laptop or any device with navigation/mapping potential and bluetooth, really

The application is tiny, and very easy to use - Simply open it up, allow it to connect via satellite and initiate a bluetooth connection via whatever software/device you're pairing it with

Viola! Your N95 is now a fully functional external GPS module

Download ExtGPS v0.31

Holy crap, thats cool!

Installed on my 6110, hopefully get a chance to see if it works.

Is there any program for windows (free) that I can use to test it out with? As my laptop is the best option.

Did you have to have a sat lock for the other device to see it as a bluetooth reciever?

Oh, and what program did you use?

Not sure exactly what the application was called; Was my mates phone, but he's left now

As for connecting, it was as simple as selecting my device when prompted for the external GPS module

Ehhh... doesn't look like it. I guess it would be hard to find its own bluetooth address. lol

I thought that immediatly, and while I didnt think it would work, I did think there might be a way to modify it. Thus I did the following...

First I emailed them (Symarctic) about it. No reply yet.

Then I looked at the comments. Heres some from a while ago (they seem to be the wrong way around, so read from the bottom):

Sorry, the local loopback is not possible using S60 Bluetooth stack, as the stack only shows remote services.

Excellent! Will this make TomTom on N95 possible? Maybe via some sort of local loop-back bluetooth connection?

Still, you never know. They seem a clever bunch, but I dont know if they want to bother with this. Looking about the net you can see how much people really do want tomtom using the internal recievers on symbian. If it is because of the amount of cracked software, then I hope they are working on a new method. Even if I have to jump through hoops to get it activated.

Maybe if there was a way to create a spoof BT address? The device may pick itself up?
