Sports Tracker Review

So along with PANOMAN I grabbed Sports Tracker and tried it out last night while snowboarding.

Being the first try at the software it seems like a great little tool. The interface is pretty intuitive and easy to use. I opened the software up while on the gondola so it had a chance to grab sattelites and get the GPS lock going and then once at the top and strapped in I just clicked start, put the phone in my outside pocket and took off down the hill. The GPS in the phone seemed to work pretty good evn in my pocket and it was quite cloudy and snowing as well. Only one of the runs did I have a problem with not getting GPS lock while in my pocket.

The information it gives you at the end is really cool and some of it is probably really useful for some of the activities you can set it up for. Today I exported the routes I created to Google Earth and this is cool as hell. You can open the file and view the whole run with Altitude right on the sattelite view. AWESOME feature. If anyone is interested in seeing the file I can send it to you, just PM me.

So far it's a really cool program.

Posted some screen shots of the data exported to Google Earth

MAttus it said I hit 42 MPH max and for some reason that seems a bit faster than it felt like but they say average snowboarder speed is 24-28 mph. Also the GPS always seems accurate enough when I'm in my car so who knows.

Have you tried the export to Google Earth?

I think that happens when the GPS loses connection momentarily. It may have something to do with setting speed to 'an average of the last 10 seconds' or something too..

But yea, in my opinion this is probably the best app on the phone.

this is definitely one of my favorites. Been snowboarding a lot and this plus panoman makes for an awesome time.

just hit a record 51.1 MPH on my snowboard and that was in pretty crappy snow conditions. Gonna try for 60 MPH by the end of the season.

I like the Sports Tracker website, it's cool to be able to upload your data for all (or only selected friends) to see whilst still in the middle of nowhere.

Well, I say nowhere, I've only done it in the middle of a city, but the principle is the same
