Not sure on this one, there's a huge thread here somewhere. I'm in the camp of using it for legitimate purposes shouldn't be discouraged. But abuse, the same as anywhere, should be frowned upon. I mean, toilet roll in the public toilet is free to use, but if you steal the whole roll, that's just naughty. Tap water in the school WC is free, but if you leave the tap running all day, you should be pulled up.
See where I'm going? In the UK, it's know as "Taking the piss".
But,
FON are working to create as many free* wifi points worldwide as possible. They've already teamed up with BT here in the UK and there are literally thousands of points knocking about. Fantastic scheme.
Their devices allow you to share some of your broadband with members of the FON community. Check it out.
Back to business though, they have a utility...
Nokia MOSH: FON Symbian Connection Manager 2.0
Which will automatically hook up to "FONspots", but will allow manual connection at the least to other unsecure spots. Not sure if it can just hook you up to unsecure AP's. Worth a try though. Certainly a good tool for scanning.
