Back on topic.
Doesn't work for me, could be vodafone's transparent proxy intefering I suppose but the laptop isn't getting an IP address from the app.
Scratch that, somehow my network settings got set to manual. May have been something I was messing with earlier.
Works now, and with reasonable speed.

This app works a treat with my Asus EEE. I don't want to use a BT dongle as it is another bit of kit I have to carry around.
The big showstopper at the moment is the lack of encryption but apparently in the final version it will have WPA/WPA2 etc.

Don't understand why they would stop it anyway. Data is data. Why does it matter what you are doing with it? Sounds very "AOL-ish"

Comedy is just about saying stupid things cleverly, or is it clever things stupidly... Anyway, it's not rocket surgery.

I did find that after 20 mins or so the speed dropped off, but initally I had a 3Mb/s download rate which is a lot faster than I get with bluetooth.
I'll be keeping an eye on developments because it will be great to turn my N95 into a roaming access point for my Nintendo DS.

may i ask how you actually got it to connect tycho? All i seem to get is a constant "pending" after it tries to set up the interface......... this is after i scan for a wireless network.
It shows up, but i can't connect. Just get "pending" over and over again..... frustrating.

Quoted for truth!
I'm running Xandros in advanced mode and its been a pretty tricky operation.
Joiku finds a connection, the EEE notices the network, but things hang indefinitely at Pending.
Are you on the default OS/other Linux distro or did you install Windows?

i didn't read the whole thread but i know no one posted using it with tmo's total internet because it's slow...
since tmo doesn't have 3g, i used this app using their total internet and it worked good. obviously it's slow but i'm happy with the fact that i can use my phone with my laptop and i don't have to look for wifi when i'm out or pay for it. it's slow but it will do with browsing and checking emails... i do my downloads at home anyways.

yeah...... same. Xandros in advanced mode. Any thoughts? I bet it's a loooong drawn out process involving sudo, bin, bash etc etc in the console.......... isn't it?

I installed this, but then uninstalled it because I'm not subscribed to data. Anyways, do all the network operatorsconsider this to be "virtual tethering"? Have they updated their fine print yet? Cause I know WM could already do this, and now symbian too!
